Health Reform and the High Cost of Healthy Living...

We’d be a healthier nation if we slimmed down. But cutting the obesity rate could actually lead to higher overall health costs, ananalysis published in PLoS Medicine suggests. That may come as a surprise to top presidential candidates, who talk both about cutting health-care costs and fighting obesity.

Dutch researchers simulated lifetime costs, starting at age 20, for smokers, the obese, and a “healthy living” cohort that maintained a healthy weight and didn’t smoke. The average lifetime costs of certain diseases were higher for the unhealthy — smokers are more likely to get lung cancer, the obese more likely to become diabetic.

But the healthy living 20 year olds could expect to live to about age 84, compared with age 77 for the smokers and 80 for the obese. Those additional years can be expensive: For healthy 20 year olds, the remaining lifetime health care costs over $400,000, compared with $365,000 for the obese and $321,000 for the smokers.

These figures are based on costs in the Dutch health care system, so they can’t be applied directly to the U.S. (And besides, this is a rough estimate based on models.) Still, with everybody in the thrall of Superduper Tuesday fever, it’s worth noting that presidential candidates in both parties like to talk both about cutting costs and fighting obesity.

Clinton, for example, notes that “had the prevalence of obesity remained the same today as it was in 1987, we would spend 10 percent less per person — approximately $200 billion — on health care today.” McCain and Obama both call obesity an “epidemic,” and both place great emphasis on lowering health care costs.

They’re right to focus on obesity as a great threat to public health in this country. But, perversely, reducing obesity and the burden of disease it causes may wind up costing the nation more, not less.

As the researchers conclude: “A remaining and most important question is whether prevention should be cost-saving in order to be attractive. Obviously, the answer is that it need not be cost-saving: like other forms of care it ‘merely’ needs to be cost-effective.”

CHILD ABDUCTION...

Whenever the evening news brings the story of a kidnapped child or teen, the terrifying prospect of abduction fills the minds of parents across the country. But it's important to remember that the majority of children will pass through childhood safely. One of the challenges of being a parent is to teach your children to be cautious without filling them with too much fear or anxiety.
Although some dangers do exist, there are steps that you can take to lessen the chances that your child will be abducted.
Approximately 2,100 missing-children reports are filed each day. All of these cases might be solved more easily if parents were able to provide a few key pieces of information about their children, like: height, weight, eye color, and a clear recent photo.
The Reality of Child Abductions The circumstances surrounding child abduction are often quite different from the way they are portrayed in TV shows and movies.

Here are some of the realities of child abduction:

  • The majority of children who are reported missing have run away, or there has been a misunderstanding with their parents about where they were supposed to be.

  • Of the kids and teens that are truly abducted, the majority of them are taken by a family member or an acquaintance; 25% of kids are taken by strangers.

  • Almost all children kidnapped by strangers are taken by men, and about two thirds of stranger abductions involve female children.

  • Most abducted children are in their teens.

  • Children are rarely abducted from school grounds.

Strategies for Preventing Abductions: Parents often do not provide their children with safety information that could help prevent an abduction.

EVERYTHING ABOUT LANDSLIDE

A landslide (or landslip) is a geological phenomenon which includes a wide range of ground movement, such as rock falls, deep failure of slopes and shallow debris flows, which can occur in offshore, coastal and onshore environments. Although the action of gravity is the primary driving force for a landslide to occur, there are other contributing factors affecting the original slope stability. Typically, pre-conditional factors build up specific sub-surface conditions that make the area/slope prone to failure, whereas the actual landslide often requires a trigger before being released.
Evidence of past landslides has been detected on many bodies in the solar system, but since most observations are made by probes that only observe for a limited time and most bodies in the solar system appear to be geologically inactive not many landslides are known to have happened in recent times. Both Venus and Mars have been subject to long-term mapping by orbiting satellites, and examples of landslides have been observed on both.

Landslide in progress
Landslides in which the sliding surface is mostly deeply located below the maximum rooting depth of trees (typically to depths greater than ten meters). Deep-seated landslides usually involve deep regolith, weathered rock, and/or bedrock and include large slope failure associated with translational, rotational, or complex movement.
Landslides that occur undersea, or have impact into water, can generate tsunamis. Massive landslides can also generate megatsunamis, which are usually hundreds of metres high.

my funniest moment....

Last 2007, my father decide to buy new house as a investment in the future. So he want me and my brother to look a house at bangi area because I and my brother were study here.

At the first day we find out the new house in area bangi, all the house is so expensive. So we decide to just find with property agent but still not have a suitable house.

One day, I go out with my friend to do study group at her house. When I enter to her house area I were read the signboard "FOR SALE" at gate of my friend's neighbour. So with the high confident level, I go to that house to asking the owner about the prosedur to buy that house.

When I asking the owner that I interested to buy this house, the owner of that house said " who say I want to sale this house?? I just want to sale this gate not this house". I'm so shocked when he said like that and I just left his house after that. My friend also laugh to me and I feel so embrassed. This is the funniest moment in my life.
